Empowering young people to take ownership of the learning process fosters skills that are useful in later life.  This also results in more engaged and receptive learners.  Schools are increasingly using pupil forums and school council to promote 'student voice' with varying degrees of success.  Whilst recognising the value of such groups, we believe that there are more effective ways to empower learners, which ensure that each and every young person in your setting has the opportunity to feel ownership over the learning process and their day to day experience.  Young people, even at a preschool age, are able to make appropriate choices about their learning.
